Lobmeyr, a glass and chandelier-making manufacturer standing for excellent craftsmanship since 1823, is in its sixth generation as a family business founded by Josef Lobmeyr senior in Vienna’s Weihburggasse. A love of the material, the emotional relationship with the product and the commitment of personal energy defines the Lobmeyr method of working from the beginning. Lobmeyr has always worked with outstanding designers, from the architects of Vienna’s Ringstrasse in the 19th century to the pioneers of the Modern Movement or contemporary artists; the list of collaborating designers mirrors not only the diversity, but also the quality of Lobmeyr’s work with crystal. This May, Lobmeyr will celebrate its 50th anniversary as 50 years ago the first applause went to the 12 Lobmeyr chandeliers installed in the Met Auditorium, designed by Hans Harald Rath .
